Beech Sapling, Green Lane ReservoirPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 24 February 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. I found this little beech sapling along the shore of Green Lane Reservoir on Saturday afternoon during one of my walks. I like how this and the other beech trees in the woods stubbornly hold on to their leaves all winter, even after all the other deciduous trees drop theirs. They add a subtle but nice color to the winter woods. It was good to get out for a walk in the snow after Friday's snowstorm. Snow has a way of making everything look fresh and new. Somehow, the cold is much easier to deal with when there's a layer of new fallen snow on the ground. Thanks for stopping by. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesWe finally got a decent snow and one of the things I noticed were the beech trees and how they really stand out when there is snow. This is a very pleasing image. 24 Feb 2008 4:17pm Angry Buddha from United StatesNice little splash of color in this shot. I'll have to venture up to Green Lane next time it snows. 24 Feb 2008 10:44pm Betsy Barron : www.thebetsy.com from Glenmoore, United StatesSimple and stunning. Those last bedraggled leaves convey my thoughts on winter which are "Spring, C'mon already!" 25 Feb 2008 12:11pm |
