Thunderstorm

Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 8 March 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A pretty violent thunderstorm blew in out of nowhere on Saturday evening and caught a lot of people by surprise, including me. We had a full day of heavy, soaking rains, followed by clearing and sunshine late in the afternoon that brought us gorgeous, puffy clouds. I had just left my house to try to capture the clouds and the setting sun when the winds whipped up to about 50 mph gusts and a storm blew in unexpectedly. The winds were violent enough that I started looking around for a tornado (having had one touch down within a few miles from our home at night several years ago, I get paranoid about such things). I was no more than an eighth of mile from home when the storm front moved in over us and I captured it over my neighbor's farmhouse.
