November 503 Whiskey Landing At 2 Whiskey 5Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 16 March 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio. I recently began working on an environmental project in southern Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. The project site that we will be evaluating is approximately 1200 acres of undeveloped land just a stone's throw from the Potomac River and Andrews AFB. Because the site is so large, it would make performing our usual site reconnaissance very difficult and very time consuming. To reduce the amount of time we would need to view the site from weeks to hours, our client decided it would be more efficient to perform an aerial reconnaissance of the project site via helicopter rather than on foot. In addition to my usual job duties as an environmental consultant, I also offered to perform aerial photography of the site for our client, who was excited that he would get both services for the same price. Because I would be photographing the site for the client, I got to go up on all three helicopter flights that day with the various project team members. It was my first time in a helicopter and I was very excited about the flight. This is a shot of the helicopter's shadow as we were coming in over the runway while landing at the airport. November 503 Whiskey (N503W) is the call sign of the helicopter in the phonetic alphabet that is used by pilots and air traffic control. 2 Whiskey 5 (2W5) is the FAA designation of the airport that we were flying into and out of in Maryland. Thanks for stopping by. Romeo Delta (RD) over and out. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."
