Evening on Cascade LakePosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 28 March 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is Cascade Lake, about 5 miles from the little hamlet of Eagle Bay, NY. This is one of my favorite lakes to hike and I hiked and skied it often when I used to live in upstate New York many years ago. I did a circuit hike in the evening around the lake the same day I made the previous image. This was shot shortly before sunset when the light had a beautiful golden quality to it. Shortly after making this image, I spotted a pair of loons peacefully swimming in the middle of the lake. I tried to photograph them, but the light grew too dim to make a decent image that wasn't blurred. I have seen this pair of loons on this lake each time I hiked here (unless it was winter) and I love listening to their distinctive yodeling and tremolos. Seeing them and hearing their calls was like catching up with old friends. Thanks for stopping by. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."
