Pennwyck FarmPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 20 April 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is an old farm just up the road from my home that is home to a beautiful old barn and a 300-year old stone farmhouse. It likely housed one of the earliest settlers in New Hanover, but it hasn't been used for farming in many years. My kids explored the fields of this farm and I even launched model rockets with my sons in the wide open fields so that we wouldn't loose the rockets when they parachuted back to the ground. Friends and I have photographed the outside of this old farm extensively, capturing its character and its charm. Sadly, this old farm will be spoiled by TH Properties, Inc. who will eventually degrade it by building rows and rows of townhomes on it. And just to show how neighborly they intend to be after coming into the community, TH Properties promptly erected plenty of "No Tresspassing" signs on this beautiful land not long after they bought it, even though they won't be building on it for a little while due to the slumping housing market. Nice, huh? I thought so, too. I wonder if they post No Trespassing signs outside their sales offices, too. Thanks for stopping by. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

I am sorry about the housing crisis, but in this case I'm glad it's slowing down "progress." What a shame for a place like this to be lost to identical townhomes. 4 May 2008 10:17pm |
