Sheeder-Hall BridgePosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 1 May 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. The evening light was gorgeous last week so I took a leisurely drive home after work down a lot of little back roads...with camera in tow. This is Sheeder-Hall Bridge near Birchrunville. It was built in 1850 and spans French Creek which is a very picturesque trout stream that flows through northern Chester County. It was a beautiful warm evening, so naturally, I found several people fly fishing in French Creek. In fact, there was a fisherman wading in the stream just to my left as I shot this (I probably looked odd standing next to the stream in office attire). What really caught my eye when I shot this were the deep shadows of the trees that were cast on the bridge by the setting sun. I worked on this image both in color and in black and white. I wasn't sure which looked better, so I decided to post the color image today and the black and white image tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoVery good light and composition! 1 May 2008 5:33pm Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesI definitely prefer the color for the warm light and rich colors ... such a beautiful scene and photographed beautifully! 4 May 2008 12:40am GJC from Kyoto, JapanThis is photography at its best. I love this image. The composition is strong, but the light takes everything. The deep shadows, the soothing blacks and the long shadows -- it makes you want to cry for its loveliness. This is outstanding work. Thanks for sharing. 4 May 2008 10:05pm |
