Scarlet Evening

Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 8 June 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This was taken in the middle of May when we had nearly a week of big, beautiful cloud formations in the sky. This was the sunset looking out over the lake at Marsh Creek State Park as I was headed home from work (yes, I know. It was a long day). But, seeing this sunset was a great way to unwind and decompress after a long day. Unfortunately for the park ranger who was waiting for me to finish, I made his day a little longer because he couldn't close the park and go home until I left because I was the last one out. I don't think he was too thrilled with me.

"The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Glorious sunset...you see so many that is just a coloured sky... but here, it is nice to see one with some foreground interest for a change. Great composition.

Peaceful, the feeling of being alone after the crowds have gone home. This could be any one of many lakes in my neck of the woods on the northern edge of the Adirondacks. Nice shot, Russ.

I must agree with Ted, the boats set this photo from most colorful skies.

I'm glad you made him wait. I've seen the skies like this lately and it was killing me not to be able to get some shots. Oh well, I'll enjoy your work instead.
