Boats and BoathousePosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 25 July 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is the boathouse on Sand Pond at Camp NoBeBoSco where the camp stores their canoes, rowboats, and sailboats. Among the many merit badges the camp offers to the scouts are canoeing, rowing, and small boat sailing. This image was made while sitting in the outdoor cathedral across the lake from the boathouse. I had a nice view of a small portion of the lake from where I was sitting and shot this while waiting for the Vespers Service to begin at the cathedral. The only major edit I made to this image was the removal of an unsightly power line that was present in the middle of the image. There was no way to shoot around it and still compose the image the way I wanted without standing at an inappropriate location within the cathedral with hundreds of scouts around me, so I shot it from where I was seated and painstakingly removed it in Photoshop. The placid view of the lake added to the serenity, atmosphere, and reverence of the Vespers Service that evening. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."
