Let The Sun Shine Down On MePosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 18 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This was photographed along the summit of Kittatinny Ridge at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary last week during a long hike with one of my sons. We had spent the last half an hour or so hiking through a thunderstorm and had just reached the ridge summit when the storm began to clear. The storm had brought in even cooler temperatures that we began with (upper 70s...in August!). The cool rains and air temperatures on top of the warm boulders at the summit combined to make some misty atmospheric conditions that were beautiful but very brief. At one point, the sun found a small break in the clouds and the mist and provided some wonderful sunbeams that filtered through the trees onto the summit of the ridge. Hawk Mountain is a privately-owned nature sanctuary located along a section of Kittatinny Ridge, near Hamburg, Pennsylvania. It is located along the Appalachian Flyway, which is one of the migration routes for migratory birds. Hawk Mountain is renowned for the large number of raptor sightings along its ridge during the spring and autumn migrations. To learn more, go to http://www.hawkmountain.org. You may be interested to know that this is my first image downloaded and processed with my new MacBook Pro. After becoming thoroughly disgusted with my infernal Windont machine, I went to my nearest computer store to finally kick Bill Gates in the butt and purchase a Mac. I had decided that my long-term plan was to replace all the Windont machines in our home with Macs, as each one died. It turned out that my machine was the first to go. I've come to believe that Windont machines are basically disposable computers, so the conversion process shouldn't take that long since their life expectancy isn't that long to begin with. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

I've debated the same change and love your 'Windont' name ... was the transition tough? 18 Aug 2008 1:11pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesLove this one Russ. Inspirational! It is a beautiful area indeed. I have spent a lot of time there, mostly on the Jersey side, and I just love it. We are Mac converts. We have 3 right now. I have a G5 and a macbook (which I bought refurbished recently) and Russell has an iMac. I have vowed never to buy another windows machine for this house! I love my macs! And Apple support and customer service is the best. I bought all of mine through Apple, either at an Apple store or from them directly on-line. 18 Aug 2008 3:19pm Betty from New Jersey, United StatesI love this kind of mist, you captured the scene beautifully!
