North Lookout, Hawk MountainPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 24 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is the view from the North Lookout at Hawk Mountain along the Skyline Trail. It's hard to believe that we began our hike from this elevation, descended to the valley floor below and then climbed back up to this point. A total distance of about six miles, by my estimate. From this elevation, turkey vultures would soar past only a few yards from where we were sitting. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

This is a sweet view - 27mm worth of fantastic sky & rolling green... did you do anything to enhance the sky? 25 Aug 2008 11:21am @Betsy Barron: Thank you, Bets. Most of the contrast in the sky is due to the circular polarizer that I used at the time of capture. I find it difficult to go hiking with my camera and leave my filters behind. They're just too useful. I bumped up the cyan just a tad and cleaned up the whites a bit, then adjusted the Levels and Curves for the image as a whole. Betty from New Jersey, United StatesIt was certainly worth that hike to reach that view... and the birds soaring so close! An excellent landscape, the light and the sky are just beautiful. 25 Aug 2008 11:32am michelle from peoria, United Statesbeautiful landscape shot very nicely captured 26 Aug 2008 12:06am |
