Testing The Water

Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 8 September 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

My wife in a quiet moment beside our swimming pool over Labor Day weekend. Only a short time before, the pool was full of kids with our yellow Lab, Nala, running around the pool barking and pulling toys out of the water, playing keep away from the kids. Although we had a relatively cool August here in New Hanover, I'm really looking forward to the cooler days and crisp nights of autumn.

"The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

What a beautiful reflection ....... you'll have to do another when the colors change!

@Judy: Typically, I close the pool and cover it long before the leaves begin to fall (usually mid to late Sept) so that's less that I have to fish out of the water. So, sorry, no fall reflections to photograph, but that is a great idea.

I like this. What a great idea.

Had fun yesterday shooting with you and Betsy. The wrist and arm are ok...just a bit stiff.

@Laurie: Thank you. Actually, I got a lazy streak last weekend and fell asleep on the chaise lounge beside the pool. When I woke up, I was greeted with this scene and, luckily, the camera was right next to me. So, I took advantage of it. It was great shooting with you as well, and meeting your sherpa...er, I mean...your husband. I have to get an assistant, too. I look forward to doing it again.

Since we don't get your fall change of colors (or not many), hopefully you're regale us with your change of season colors when that time comes. Fall is the time of year I miss New England!

@Judy: Photograph the fall colors? I don't know, Judy. You might have to twist my arm to get me to do THAT! LOL. Actually, I have several autumn photos leftover from last year that I didn't get a chance yet to process or post, so at the very least, you will get to see those. But, I'm sure I will be photographing the leaves this year. I'm hoping for an extended autumn season this year like we had last year.
