Dawn of the DeadPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 12 October 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. This is the cemetery very near my home that I photographed one foggy morning a few weeks ago. The cemetery dates back over 300 years and is said to be the final resting place of several soldiers from the American Revolution. While there are very many headstones here that are very, very old, I haven't personally verified that story. I've had an idea for quite a while to produce an image for Halloween using a model in a long black dress and/or witch's costume in a cemetery such as this. I think this would be the perfect place and now I just need a willing model. Anyone interested? Now, if only the weather could be this cooperative when I was producing that image. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Giovanni from Milan, ItalyWow, like this mysterious mood. Beautiful processing. Very well done! 12 Oct 2008 9:38am Simon Hawkings from Reading, United KingdomGreat shot Russ! You got just what you were after, now to find a witch..... 12 Oct 2008 10:00am Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesI'm with Simon ... get out looking for the 'witch' and you've got your shot, even though Halloween isn't a favorite for me. 12 Oct 2008 12:55pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI love the mood of this one. I don't really find cemeteries scary places. I actually find them rather peaceful. I know that is odd but I just do. I did a "Halloween" shot and accompanying story in a graveyard a couple of years ago. I was my own model. It was interesting and kind of fun. 13 Oct 2008 4:50am Betsy Barron from Glenmoore, United Statesooooh Super SPOOKY! I love it! I'll model for ya - I'm a witch most days (ask my husband), I won't even need a costume ;) 14 Oct 2008 1:14am @Betsy Barron: Then grab your pointy hat and your broomstick, Bets, 'cause we're goin' shootin!!!! Mary from Exton, United StatesThis is creapy... Way to go and capture the feeling! 15 Oct 2008 12:18pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesThis is definitely a spooky looking place. Your idea for a model in black would be super, esp. if you could get the conditions to repeat like on this day. 16 Oct 2008 12:27pm |
