Daniel Boone Barn and Blacksmith ShopPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 10 December 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is the barn and blacksmith shop at the Daniel Boone Homestead in Berks County, Pennsylvania. These structures are located behind the main house and are home to a horse and a small flock of VERY noisy geese that were in the barnyard in front of the barn. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesThis is nothing less than gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful! 10 Dec 2008 11:53am Ed Heaton from Atglen, United StatesNicely done Russ and I see they have finished the construction around the barn! 10 Dec 2008 12:21pm Mary from Exton, United StatesA beautiful image.. Are you using any filters here??? or processing techniques? 10 Dec 2008 1:24pm @Mary: I used a Cokin ND grad filter when I shot this. I own five of them of varying densities and graduations. I don't know the filter no. off hand, but I used one of the darkest filters since there was quite a large tonal range between subject and sky. In PP, I also applied a neutral density filter in CS3 to bring out more detail and color in the sky. That was in addition to my usual levels and curves processing. I also ratcheted down the saturation a few clicks on the barn and blacksmith shop to be more in line with reality. When I walked inside the main house, where the historians/actors were located in their period costumes, one of the gentlemen saw my camera, tripod, and large, square filters clamped to the front of my lens (not that you could miss it) and exclaimed, "Look out, the paparazzi are here!". Betty from New Jersey, United StatesReally nice processing, the colors are gorgeous! 10 Dec 2008 4:07pm Betty from New Jersey, United StatesReally nice processing, the colors are gorgeous! 10 Dec 2008 4:08pm DarkElf from Perth, Australiabeautiful mood with superb soft light and subtle colours... one really feels the cold of Winter creeping in... 11 Dec 2008 1:30am Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesAnother great image.
