Hopewell Sunrise

Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 13 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This was shot at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, which is a restored 18th century iron-making community, near Elverson, Pennsylvania. As I walked along the access road looking for something interesting to photograph, I noticed how the smooth remnants of ice on the road had a nice reflective quality about it. So, I decided to wait to see if the ice might reflect some of the colors of the coming sunrise. My patience paid off as the ice did the job that I thought it would. I just wish there had been more ice to reflect more of the sky.

"The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

This is one of those shots where I probably should have stopped gabbing with Mary, turned around, and looked behind me walking up the road! Tremendous light
