Fresh PowderPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 22 February 2009 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio. ...just a photo of my son, Ben, and our dog, Nala, goofing off in the snow while hiking in the Pocono Mountains yesterday. To get into better shape in general and to prepare both of us for a major backpacking trip that we have planned down the road, we decided to commit ourselves to doing at least one major day hike of at least 8 miles each month. As we were hiking, I turned around to see what those two were doing behind me and watched as Ben was throwing snow at Nala and Nala was trying to catch the snow in her mouth, but ending up with a faceful of the cold stuff instead. I liked how the dry, powdery snow luminesced from the backlight of the sun when Ben threw it in the air. So, I asked him to do it again, but to toss it high into the air. Nala, ever the playful pup, continued to try to catch the snow in her mouth. This frame shows her getting ready to jump, but the frame immediately after this shows her jumping straight up and off the ground, as she tried to catch the snow. However, I like the position of Ben's arms better in this one, so this one was the keeper. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

The moment is precious. The light through the airborne snow is wonderful. Mark and I were up in Bear Mountain along the Hudson River in NY and there was not nearly this much snow left which kind of surprised me. We've not had snow left on the ground here in some time now but I expected to see more left on the ground up there. 22 Feb 2009 8:11pm gavin hart from Gold Coast, AustraliaIt's wonderful how man and dog can have so much fun together. A very worthwhile capture. 25 Feb 2009 10:22am Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesIt is good to get to see some of your family. I like how the backlit snow looks. 25 Feb 2009 1:15pm |
