Storm Over New HanoverPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 23 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. When I left early in the evening to attend my daughter's art show at her elementary school, it was sunny and bright, albeit slightly cool. However, an hour later, storm clouds rolled in, the wind started blowing, and the temperature must have dropped 15 degrees. I captured the storm clouds rolling in as we drove home. I had on only a rain jacket as I shot this and I about froze my butt off in the stiff wind waiting for the evening colors to show themselves in the sky. The juxtaposition of the bright white flowering trees against the foreboding dark sky is what initially drew me to this scene. I initially wanted to emphasize the white trees, but couldn't resist concentrating on the sky once I set up my camera and the character of the clouds and the colors revealed themselves. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Thanks for sharing! 23 Apr 2009 3:11pm Betsy Barron from Chester Springs, PA, United StatesI pretty much made the statement "I betcha Russ is out with a wide angle right now" when this storm came rolling in.... great light, wasn't it? Nicely captured here - love the green and white in the trees - and you managed to get a little blue between all those clouds - nicely done my friend 23 Apr 2009 4:11pm DarkElf from Perth, Australiafantastic and dramatic light and tones! this is a great composition too - letting the stormy sky have most of the frame and yet the growth in the foreground is a great leading point! 24 Apr 2009 3:56am |
