Hemlock Skeletons in FogPosted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 5 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. One of the things I really like about the Adirondacks and the North Country in general is that the summer days are comfortably warm with low humidity and the mornings and nights are very cool. We're talking sweater, jacket, and long pants kind of cool. Perfect weather for camping. The cool mornings frequently result in low fog over the warm water of the lakes and make for some interesting visual effects, especially at sunrise. Canoeing on the lakes during these conditions can be magical. These are the skeletons of some old hemlock trees that had toppled into Seventh Lake some time ago. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."
