Great Egret (Casmerodius albus)Posted by Russ Devan (New Hanover, United States) on 27 September 2009 in Animal & Insect. This image was made during a recent morning outing to Green Lane Reservoir in northern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. I was really taken with the majesty and grace of this beautiful white bird as it stalked its breakfast silently and gracefully in a shallow backwater pool next to the reservoir. It must not have thought me much of a threat as it walk closer toward me as watched in plain sight. This was shot handheld with a 2x teleconverter affixed to a 70 to 300 mm f/4-5.6 Nikkor zoom lens. "The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."

Michael from Elverson, United StatesI had a similar experience a couple years ago with a GBH. After about an hour alone with that bird he came close enough to me for a full frame head shot. It was one of those times the experience was even more enjoyable than the photography. I like the back lighting on this Egret, nice job. 27 Sep 2009 2:42pm Dan Creighton from Pottstown, United StatesRuss- I really like the backlighting here. Nicely handled exposure. I think the rangers use this egret as a decoy to issue warnings to guys parking alongside the road ;^) 27 Sep 2009 3:21pm |
